Five star rated by Visit Wales, the official welsh grading scheme, www.visitwales.com Pen-y-Bank is a traditional hill cottage on the Shropshire Powys border. It enjoys a beautiful situation with extensive views over Long Mountain, the Rea Valley and the Stiperstones area. It is an ideal place to stay for anyone who is looking for complete privacy and peace and quiet; there is excellent walking in the immediate vicinity and further afield: the Long Mynd, the Stretton Hills and the Clun Valley Hills are all within easy driving distance.
Pen-y-Bank is five miles from Powys Castle and two miles from Offa's Dyke Path; visitors can be collected from and returned to the path. There are several other National Trust properties in the area and the Ironbridge Gorge with its many museums is an easily reached day’s outing.
The accommodation has its own entrance, and consists of a large bedroom with en-suite bathroom with bath; and a large, private sitting room with French windows opening onto a terrace .
The bedroom can be either double or twin bedded according to your requirement. It is equipped with radio, television and video recorder; and tea and coffee making facilities. The large sitting room has a wood burning stove and a television with a DVD player.
All of the rooms have extensive views; and there is a five acre garden in which you may wander. There is ample private parking.
The accommodation is of a very high standard and is suitable for two adults sharing; a cot is available if required. Breakfasts are AGA cooked and use locally sourced, free range, organically produced ingredients whenever possible. Special dietary requirements can be catered for on request.
The charge for the rooms with bed and breakfast is between £35 & £45 per person per night, with reductions for three night stays.
There are two pubs with very good restaurants within a mile of Pen-y-Bank; and several other very good restaurants within sensible driving distance.
Pen-y-Bank is unsuitable for anyone unable to cope easily with steps and stairs.
